Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  1. What are the onboard dress codes?

There are three distinct types of "evenings" on board - casual, smart casual and formal. Suggested guidelines for these evenings are as follows. On casual nights, we suggest sport shirts and slacks for men; sundresses or pants for women. On smart casual nights, dresses and pantsuits for women; jackets and ties for men. For formal nights, women should wear cocktail dresses; men should wear suits and ties or tuxedos (optional).

  • Three and four-night cruises consist of one formal night and two or three casual nights.
  • Seven-night cruises include two formal nights, one smart casual night and four casual nights.
  • Ten, 11 and 12-night cruises consist of three formal nights, three smart casual; all other nights are casual.
  • 14 & 15 night cruises have three formal nights, four semi-formal nights and the remainder is casual.

  1. What is the Age Policy?

No guest under the age of twenty-one (21) will be booked in a stateroom unless accompanied by an adult twenty-five (25) years of age, or older. This age limit will be waived for minor children sailing with their parents or guardians in adjacent staterooms or under-aged married couples (proof of marriage is required). Cruise lines reserve the right to ask for proof of age. Please note: An individual's age on the date of sailing determines his or her status for the entire cruise vacation.

  1. How much do I pay in gratuities?

It is customary to offer gratuities to staff members you feel have given you exceptional service and personal attention. The cruising industry suggests the following guidelines:

Waiter: $3.50 p/day
Busboy: $2.00 p/day
Restaurant Manager: .75 p/day
Butler (suites only): $3.50 p/day
Steward/ess: $3.50 p/day
Chief Housekeeper: .50 p/day

For children less than 12 years old, as third or fourth person in the stateroom, half the above amounts are recommended.

  1. What security is onboard?

Ships meet or exceed all International and U.S. Coast Guard safety regulations, including smoke detectors and sprinkler systems where required

  1. Do you offer internet access on your ships?

Internet access is offered onboard all of our ships in the Internet Cafe for a minimal fee.

  1. Do cabins have soap, shampoo, and conditioner?

All of our staterooms supply soap, shampoo, and conditioners.

  1. When can I board the ship?

The guest may begin boarding the ship at 2:00 P.M. It is their responsibility to arrive on time. The latest a guest can board the ship is 60 minutes before departure.

  1. What do I need to do on the last night of the cruise?

The last night of the cruise you need to pack all of your bags except, the clothes that you will be wearing the following day and your toiletries. Please make sure that your bags are outside of the stateroom by 10:00 P.M. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

  1. What are the procedures for disembarkation?

Guests are disembarked by color codes according to flight departure times.

  1. Can I bring my own liquor onboard at embarkation?

Guests who purchase liquor onboard a Royal Caribbean International vessel from one of our gifts shops, for in-cabin consumption, will be sold the liquor at an in-cabin consumption rate (non-duty free rate which is comparable to retail rates), which in turn can be taken immediately to their cabin.

If a guest decides that they would like to purchase duty free liquor from any of our gift shops, then they will pay the duty free price and their respective liquor purchase will be delivered to their stateroom on the last night of their voyage.

In addition, any liquor purchases that are made by a guest in a land based location, will be stored onboard when they enter the vessel, and will be delivered to their stateroom on the last night of their voyage.

For those guests who bring wine and champagne to celebrate a special occasion onboard, these products will be tagged and stored by our personnel, and delivered to the guest stateroom or their dining venue, as per their request. If these special wines or champagnes are consumed in our dining room or specialty restaurants, or in the Windjammer Cafe for casual dining, a corkage fee of $8 per bottle will apply.

  1. What beverages are complimentary in the dining room?

Iced water, iced tea, lemonade, brewed coffee and hot tea.

  1. What documents will I need to travel?

Before Leaving Home:
Please take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the required travel documents you will be asked to provide prior to boarding the ship.
Caution: The requirements described below are required by government regulations and policies. They are subject to change without notice.

It is the sole responsibility of the guest to identify all travel documents and obtain and have available when necessary the appropriate valid travel documents such as passports, visas, inoculation and family legal documents required for boarding and re-entry into the United States and other countries. For your protection, we recommend that your passport expiration date not occur within six (6) months of the sailing termination date.

Domestic Sailing Requirements:
This applies to travel that starts and ends in a port in the United States or Puerto Rico to destinations in the United States, Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, Caribbean and Mexico.

U.S. Citizens:  A passport (valid or expired) is highly recommended as it will speed-up your check-in formalities as well as your departure procedures with government officials. In the absence of a passport, a birth certificate (original or a certified copy), plus a picture ID card issued by a federal, state or local government agency is required.  A voter registration card or Social Security Card are not considered to be proof of citizenship. Children under 16 years of age do not require a picture ID.  Visas are not required for U.S. citizens.

Non U.S. Citizens:   Valid passports and visas (when needed) including the original copy of Alien Registration Card (ARC or "Green card") and any other travel documentation required because of alien status in the United States or with respect to any country on the itinerary.

For visas, please check with your travel agent, government agencies, embassies or consulates for the countries you intend to visit on your cruise vacation to determine your visa requirements.

International Sailing Requirements:
This applies to travel that originates in any country other than the United States, Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, Caribbean and Mexico.

U.S. Citizens:  Valid passports and visas (when needed) are required.

Non U.S. Citizens:  Valid passports and visas (when needed) are required and any other travel documentation required by the governments of the countries on the itinerary.  For visas/inoculations, please check with your travel agent, government agencies, embassies or consulates, your physician local health department or the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (www.cdc.gov/travel) to determine travel and health documentary requirements.

Family Legal Documents:
Adults who are not the parent or Legal Guardian of any minor child traveling with them are required to present the child's valid passport and visa (or certified copy of the child's birth certificate) and an original notarized letter signed by at least one of the child's parents. The notarized letter from the child's parent must authorize the traveling adult to take the child on the specific cruise and must authorize the traveling adult to supervise the child and permit any medical treatment that must be administered to the child. If a non-parent adult is a Legal Guardian, the adult must present a certified certificate of Guardianship with respect to the child.

 Inoculation / Health:
As detailed in our brochure, all guests must ensure that they are medically and physically fit for travel. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) provide guidelines as to which vaccinations are required in each country. In many cases inoculations are recommended but in some circumstances they are required. We recommend that you check with your health care professional or a Travel Medicine Specialist certified by the WHO for guidance. Other informational resources can be accessed at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Traveler's Health website at www.cdc.gov/travel or toll free at 1-877-FYI-TRIP, and the World Health Organization website at www.who.int/vaccines-diseases
